At Least a Third of Americans "Get It"
One-third of Americans believe that American Jews are more loyal to Israel than to the United States, according to figures presented to the Knesset on Tuesday by Anti-Defamation League director Abe Foxman.
"This belief is so out of sync with everything else happening in America, with the fact that there's so much acceptance of Jews in all phases of life - academia, commerce, media, politics," Foxman told The Jerusalem Post. "When Joe Lieberman ran for vice president [in 2000], there was very little talk about double loyalty." Now, "because of the phenomenon of Mearsheimer and Walt and Jimmy Carter, this whole discussion as to whether Jews are disproportionately powerful in foreign policy - the conspiracy thesis - in the mainstream," Foxman added.
Will this atmosphere "intimidate Jews from not acting out as publicly and as openly in exercise of their rights and in support of positions they believe in? Will Jews begin to feel intimidated when they speak out about Iran? That's my concern," Foxman noted. "This will not trigger anti-Semitic violence, but it is poisoning the atmosphere when it's more and more legitimate to debate the loyalty of Jews on American campuses. This is classic political anti-Semitism."
The disproportion of power in US foreign policy - that is, that Jews, who represent less than 3% of the US population, yet hold positions of power and influence in many departments of government way out of proportion to their numbers - is no longer a theory is it Mr. Foxman? The 'phenomenon' of Mearsheimer and Walt and Jimmy Carter as you put it, has shown it to be fact, not theory, hasn't it?
Jews be intimidated from speaking out? Don't make us laugh Mr. Foxman. Since when have Jews ever been intimidated from speaking out? In fact, it is you and your ADL that attempts to intimidate the rest of us from speaking out with your labels of anti-Semitism thrown out at the first hint of discussion or criticism of anything Jewish or Israeli. Tell us your fellow conspirator Alan Dirtbag Dershowitz didn't try and succeed in intimidating the faculty at De Paul University regarding tenure for Dr. Finklestein because he dare document the exploitation of the so-called holocaust by members of the Jewish community. Tell us you don't try to intimidate the rest of us by imprisoning those of us who dare speak out - the Zundels, the Irvings, and hundreds of others, even Zundel's attorney Stolz - for simply questioning the holocaust.
"US Jews are very uncomfortable with this [issue]," commented MK Colette Avital (Labor), a member of the Knesset Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Committee where Foxman was speaking on Tuesday. She told the Post that the figures indicated "a failure to explain - I hate to use the word hasbara - that you can be loyal to both. In the US, people can live with several identities, such as Italian-Americans and African-Americans, and Jewish Americans should be seen in that context."
Ah, Avital, here's the rub. The other 98% of us don't have Italian-Americans running our government or caught spying for theirs. Italy didn't attack the USS Liberty killing 34 and injuring 172 - with the intent to sink it. Italian-Americans don't have an AIPAC. Italian-Americans are not calling anyone who questions the Italian mafia anti-Catholic. And we aren't fighting wars for African-Americans, are we? The 98% of us don't have the right to question the loyalty of the 2% who we are fighting wars for?
Foxman also told MKs that, despite a drop over the past 30 years in the percentage of Americans holding anti-Semitic attitudes from 30 percent to 15%, the figure still stood at 35 million adult Americans. Meanwhile, between 2005 and 2007, the number of anti-Semitic incidents in America dropped from 1,757 to some 1,350.
What is your definition of an anti-Semite Mr. Foxman? It appears to be anyone who is brave enough to state facts concerning disproportionate Jewish influence in the affairs of other countries or those who point out the atrocities committed by the Zionists against the Palestinians and others, including the Lebanese. You won't be satisfied, will you, until the 'hate crime' laws you through the ADL are tirelessly working to get passed in the States, so that anyone who questions or even discusses issues related to Jews or Zionism can be labeled an anti-Semite and imprisoned? Well, many of us are going to fight you every step of the way. Be assured of that. We won't be intimidated.
Foxman was quoting the ADL's 2007 "Survey of American Attitudes Towards Jews in America," which put the figure of Americans who believe Jews are more loyal to Israel than to the US at 31%, a number roughly unchanged since at least 1992.
Your fear is, isn't it, Mr. Foxman? Once Americans get educated and see through your propaganda, that the 31% figure may increase. And the 98% of us may throw off the yoke that you 2% have hanging on our necks - fighting your wars for you and having our children die for you so yours don't have to and paying the price so you diabolical greedy 2% don't have to. That is really what worries you, isn't it?
