Have you noticed the increasing government talk about creating jobs? In today's America, most people assume it is government's job to create jobs, jobs and more jobs. So, in sync with the political savvy most clever politicians have, they promise the people, jobs, jobs, jobs. However, no where in the US Constitution, the contract between We the People and their government, can there be found any clause where it spells out the government's role in creating jobs, jobs, jobs.

What we do see is government's responsibility to protect our God given unalienable right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," which was originally written as "the pursuit of property" but changed just before ratification. Here's what George Mason had to say about the pursuit of property:

That all men are by nature equally free and independent, and have certain inherent rights, of which, when they enter into a state of society, they cannot, by any compact, deprive or divest their posterity; namely, the enjoyment of life and liberty, with the means of acquiring and possessing property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety.

Yes, We the People have the right to property, that is, we have the right to acquire - through our efforts - property, and then we have the right to hold on to that property. It is the government's main responsibility to provide the environment to do just that - legally acquire property and then keep what property is acquired. In fact, arguments can be made that securing our rights is the sole purpose of government; why the people created government in the first instance.

Instead, we have a government that is doing everything in it's power to destroy our ability to earn property, through small business endeavors, self-employment, contracts, hard work, in short, what it takes to acquire property, also known as working capital. Today, we find the tail wagging the dog, to death. Worse, if We the People are fortunate, through our efforts and despite the myriad of obstacles, hurdles and roadblocks government - at all levels - sets up to hinder our efforts, and do manage to succeed, government, at all levels, takes as much as it can through taxation. The tail wags the dog to death and yet sniffs around expecting to extract more taxes from the dead corpse.

In the place of opportunity, government offers the promise of jobs, jobs, jobs. In short, a job is nothing more than a way for corporations to keep most people on slave wages. True wealth is created through self-employment, small business endeavors, free market capitalism, not jobs, jobs, jobs.

One of my favorite sayings related to work is: "I'm so busy working, I can't make any money." I for one, don't want a job. I want an opportunity to create wealth for myself and my posterity and then to be able to keep what I create safe from government confiscation. This is at direct odds with what our government is doing today: they destroy those who create wealth - this is what happened to small business owners in California - and jobs, and then, once the destruction of wealth takes place, step up to the microphone and promise jobs, jobs, jobs. Any and all jobs which do happen to be created, of course, are created with the very funds government extracts from its citizens, through the heavily progressive income tax, the second plank of the Communist Manifesto. When government succeeds in confiscating our wealth, which it most certainly has, we all end up poor, which we are most certainly becoming.

To the government's repeated promise to provide jobs, jobs, jobs, I respond "take this promise of jobs, jobs, jobs and shove it."
